CALA Social Capital is a UK-based social enterprise which aims to promote the development of microfinance through the Anglican Church in the developing world.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life of individuals and communities by enabling the provision of accessible and affordable financial and social services.

We work with local partners to set up autonomous microfinance institutions which provide these services to people of all races, faiths and backgrounds, with a particular focus on reaching those currently outside of the formal financial system. Through this, we aim to promote sustainable development and build climate resilience for vulnerable communities in the developing world.

Our aims are to:

-       Start up self-sufficient, financially sustainable microfinance institutions.

-       Provide attractive investment opportunities for development banks and the international financial community.

-       Support the development of a range of financial services offered by these institutions.

These institutions will:

-     Offer financial products such as micro loans, savings schemes and micro insurance.

-     Engage with CALA, and its partners, to identify future possibilities for products and services that meet local needs.

-     Partner with the Anglican Communion to harness their extensive grassroots networks for the delivery of financial and social services to remote and under-served communities.

-     Pioneer the use of new technology to deliver services at scale and with lower operating costs and risks than traditional microfinance projects.

Microfinance in Tanzania

CALA Social Capital is partnering with the Anglican Church of Tanzania to set up an autonomous Tanzanian national microfinance company. The microfinance company (MFC) will provide financial services, including loans, savings and insurance, with a particular focus on reaching rural and low income areas that have previously not had access to finance.

The MFC’s unique business model will enable it to achieve significant scale, with lower operating costs and risks than traditional microfinance projects.  Read more about what we do.
